Hamburg, Copenhagen Show Cancelled Due To Injury
Update: Chad aggravated an old injury that had not healed while playing last week in Paris. He had an MRI that revealed the injury and waited to see if he could play last week. Madrid was cancelled to allow him time for evaluation in Paris and he came to Italy hoping to play the remainder of the shows. After the weekend shows he was in pain and all were very concerned that he could need more than rest so this week's sold out Hamburg and Copenhagen shows have been cancelled to allow Chad more time to see specialists in London. Chad is a very physical drummer who cannot play a show at 50% and it is very hard for him to hold back onstage. He is very sorry he cannot play for the German and Danish fans this week. We hope we will be back to play very soon.
--
We are sorry to inform our Spanish fans that Chickenfoot cannot perform tomorrow night Jul 1 in Madrid due to a serious injury to drummer Chad Smith. Chad was performing on stage last night in Paris and during the show he hurt his right arm badly. He has torn his small bicep and cannot play the show Weds July 1st. The band is very sorry they cannot play for their Spanish fans this week and plan to return as soon as possible.
That sucks. I am not from Compenhagen but I give my respects to Chad - I hope he gets better soon.
I really feel sorry for Chad and I hope he will get well soon. Unlike quite a few of people who have commented here, I believe that Chads injury is real and I am sure that all the Chiken Feets are feeling really bad about having to cancel shows and letting their fans down. Having said that, I find that they have a special obligation to find a way to come back and play in Madrid, Hamburg and last but not least Copenhagen.

Hi to all of the Hamburg fans -- I can guarantee you that the band and management were *very* disappointed to not play the show -- no one wants to cancel a show, especially one that is sold out and the first time of a new band in front of their German fans! As stated in the news, Chad tried to continue to play after the injury but it just continued to be too painful to play a show to the quality the guys are dedicated to delivering. We certainly apologize to any fan who may have not received the news before making a trip to the venue and if the local promoter did not reach you earlier with their messaging (you can also be sure they were also just as disappointed about the cancellation). The band will be back as soon as it is possible, but understand that it can take a while to reschedule, even if the band wants to be there right away. Thanks to all the German fans for their support of the guys individually through the years and also their enthusiasm for the new band!
Check out some of my Bospop pictures here: Bospop Flickr
Awesome pictures...thanks for sharing! The Jeff Beck ones are cool too. :-)
Saw them on Bospop today... They were just absolutely great... No indication Chad had any problem drumming... The whole band just played like they've been playing together for 20 years, but with the energy and enthusiasm of a starting band...
I really feel sorry for the people who had tickets for one of the cancelled shows, they really missed out on a great show... Like Sammy said: "This is what we call a rock concert"...
One comment, I am a fan like you. I can understand your complaints again the band, how the cancellation was managed. Probably the band should more communicate with their european fans, but I personally think they do not really matter, because why don't they communicate on this site? Because this site is a... business site ! Even the fanclub is managed by a business entity, so the lack of communication is not surprising.
No meet and greet, no communication, no consideration for the fans (only Joe has meet and greet, but only one person, and not on all the shows...). Don't tell me this is impossible, just look what Metallica do for their fans actually, go on www.metallica.com, metontour section and compare....
Metal up Your Ass !
I know another band who has a drummer with only one arm (Def Leppard to those who does not know) ... Chad maybe could learn some tricks from him :-)
well I am sure that Def Leppard's drummer had some recovery time before he became a 1 handed drummer. And their drummer does not even compare to Chad. Chad will heal, he just needs some time

I totally agree with "georgie". You cannot tell e.g. that the VAN HALEN brothers do nothing for the fans, but you put a simple handwriten message on the door. Furthermore it could not be so difficult to organise another gig in northern Germany or southern Denmark between the 15th and 30th of July. If Kilafors (Sweden) or Weert (Netherlands) are jeopardized as well, please inform the fans earlier.
Chickenfoot announced the cancellation on the site here...the note at the venue would have been written by the promoter or the venue staff, not the band. So if you're upset with how that was done, you should probably direct your complaints to them instead.
If Chickenfoot does another European tour later this year, I'm sure they'll do what they can to play in Germany. They can't play a make-up gig in the last half of July, though, as they need to ship their gear back to the US in time for the next leg of the tour.

chad's an idiot! get a new drummer! everyone knows the heart of the band is Sammy, Michael & Joe anyway. chad has already made it clear too that his "other band" is priority.
If you want to get technical, the "heart" of the band was initially Sammy, Mikey, and Chad, because they were jamming together down in Cabo San Lucas well before Joe was involved with the Chickenfoot project.
But that doesn't matter...they're a BAND. Each member has other things going on, and they've all said in interviews that they don't want to prevent anyone from working on other stuff. Chad is just as dedicated to Chickenfoot as the other three are...look at his discography and you'll see that he's always had several different things going on at once. It's what he does.
So, I'm not the only one who travelled in vain to Hamburg...
Of course I understand that a show gets cancelled if someone gets ill. But...
When I came to the venue I only saw a few people outside and a handwritten note in the window of the box office. So I thought the show was cancelled only a few hours before its scheduled start, because Chad's injury returned. But when I finally had the time to go to the internet again, I found out that the news was out at least the day before. Such a shame it didn't spread. A cancelled show is surely something worth a mail-out, or maybe a tweet. I follow Chickenfoot - not a record company... I didn't see it when I looked at the website on tuesday morning.
So what to do now? Return the ticket, or keep it for a rescheduled show?
Not coming back to Germany? I'm sure Sammy wasn't serious about that. What I am sure about is, that they will draw more fans as soon as people realize who Chickenfoot are. There has not much been going on in the media here so far. The show really would have helped, because it possibly would have been reported about on TV.
Große Freiheit 36 is one of the very best places to go for a Rock'n Roll show. Great audience all the time. There's never been a concert I regreted to go all the 290 km... The other one I recommend is Zeche Bochum.
So - Get well soon! Stay stafe and come back soon!
Cheers!
Chickenfoot might not have many fans here in Germany, but as far as I heard Hamburg was sold out. Might not be the biggest location, but i think it would have been an awesome night for the fans and the band.
I really hope, that they will come back to Germany soon.
My best wishes to you, and get better soon Chad!
Get well soon Chad!
Please let us know, when you will play Hamburg, Berlin, or what ever in Germany.
Don't think, you won't have enough fans in Germany.
We are the best!

IT IS REALLY A PITY!
Four friends of mine and I took a leave for three days. We checked the website in the early morning of the 6th and no comment about the injury. We drove to Hamburg in the afternoon to see CHICKENFOOT the next day. We were all disappointed as we read the news. We had a long trip, three days less vacation and no foot.
Unfortunately Sammy mentioned in an interview, that naturally they don't go to Germany, because they do not have many fans over here. Thus we don't expect that they will come to Germany again in the future, although they have really die-hard fans here.
We wish you all the best, good luck and get better very soon, Chad!
Greetings
Nick & friends
Chicken dont taste the same without a bit of chili!!Get well soon...hope to see you on the road...
That should put a smile on anyone's face that reads this post. Get well and play a gig in Saskatchewan, Canada - LOL.
I have never been so excited about a new band, I will more then likely never see you's live so how about a live CD - Keep Rocking, love the debut albulm, can't stop listening to it. Excellent, super Great stuff - you boys rock!
HA! I love it! Your so right!! Chili Mmmmmmm!!!

Please get better soon Chad!! I hope you can play your show here in Sweden!!!!!
Just as a wild quess I would say they are really trying to do the Sweden show. I was yesterday in Copenhagen (just for fun :-) and outside Vega there was a UK plated tour bus. I think it means one of these three options: Crew still continued to travel as planned towards Sweden, the bus had nothing to do with Chickenfoot or you can't assume anything based on that. Anyway I hope for the first option for the Swedish fans. If I only had the money I would be booking new tickets to fly to Sweden ;-). Well maybe next time. If we could plan all it would be called a project but cause we can't I quess it's called life.
Get well Chad. Germany needs a 100% Chickenfoot. Give me a 100% Foot or give me no Foot at all!! We really hope you guys can plan a make up gig for Germany. That's right, the best rock fans in the world are right here! I, personally, can prove this.
All Hail The Foot! /|\
Footler, over and out!
Hello,
too bad to hear about the injury, I hope you will recover soon.
Looks like I am out of luck: Last March I flew to NY (from Germany) to see the VH "reunion" tour - cancelled. You probably can imagine the disappointment. So I was f***cking excited to see "the other half" and two more great people. I bet this is much more exiting than VH with DLR (Sammy: Van Halen really rocked when you were there Unfortunately, I was too young at that time).
So, please, please, please play at Hamburg if you are all OK or I loose my faith going to concerts :-)
Best wishes from Germany!
What a pity you could not make it to Hamburg. Was almost on my way to the gig when I found out about the cancellation... Would have loved to see the band at a small venue – I hope you will be here soon! Get well soon, Chad! Best wishes from Germany, Olaf P.S.By the way, there is so far nobody playing at the Grosse Freiheit on Wednesday, July 15 ...
too bad :(....a lot o fans will not see Chickenfoot`s show :(...hope you will be better Chad!!!the people of the foot are supporting you!
Chickenfootage from the show in Pistoia, Italy. Sammy shows the crowd Chad's bandaged upper arm. Take care of yourself Brother, we want you back strong and healthy /|\

Chad,
Get well man. Seriously, go on the DL/IR and take a break. This is an injury that would likely knock a pitcher or QB out for the year, so please, take it easy, rest up, and recover!
European fans, PLEEEEEEEEEEEASE be patient, this is a serious injury. I know that it sucks badly, as the anticipation for the GREATEST BAND EVER is through the roof, but there is no doubt that these PROS will make it up to you! It's tough, but this is a serious injury that needs time to heal. It might be different if Chad was the lead singer or a guitarist, but he is the DRUMMER and he uses his arm muscles more than any other group of muscles in his body. Take a late but healthy CHAD over a 50% CHAD or a weak-ass drummer not named CHAD who can't hit the beats like CHAD and doesn't equal the chemistry of the rest of the FOOT. The FOOT is only as strong as its weakest TOE (CLAW?)! Chad, Joe, Sammy and Mike, take it easy guys, rest up, and get ready for some hard & heavy ROCK 'n ROLL in a few weeks!
PEACE
Jimbo4345
Yes I agree. Some people on here are being selfish because they're saying that they are annoyed at Chad for having a serious injury. But how would those people like it if THEY had a serious injury? It's not good, isn't it? :[
This is BS. The show must go on. Chad, sling the arm and play the drums. Either that or get a new drummer until you've healed. That's life.
no....chickenfoot can`t get another drummer...Chad will soon be better...the show must go on but only with Chad,Satch,Sammy and Michael...this is chickenfoot!!!
Here here!! I totally agree with you!!! I'd rather never see Chickenfoot again (was lucky enough to see them in Boston and in NY), than see them without Chad!

no Chad = not Chickenfoot
Sorry to read about Chads injury. Thanks to Facebook I've been warned of the cancelled show in Hamburg and could cancel the hotel-room I booked.
I hope you will return to Hamburg very soon. I was excited for weeks because of tomorrow night!
Get better very soon, Chad! And the other guys: Take care!

Chad,
SO sorry to hear this!! Time to stop playing and rest that injury until your 100%!!!
All my best

This can't be true... Just heard the news. I've been a Satriani, Van Halen and RHCP fan for years and years and Chickenfoot was a dream come true.
Me and my pal had all booked from Finland to Copenhagen Denmark for Wednesday morning and return flight on Thursday. It's no the money we loose (approx 700 USD) but the missed opportunity to see this show. We would have had a lot easier possibility to travel to Stockholm but wanted to see a Chickenfoot only show in Denmark and not festival type gig in Sweden.
I hope Chad gets well soon even though it ain't gonna help my aiche at least any time soon cause Finland is not on the gig list. You better keep my nick saved in Satriani.com to ease the pain next time you visit Finland ;-)
Hi there!
I just got off the phone with the venue for the Hamburg gig - "Große Freiheit 36". They told me that one hour ago the band canceld the show for tomorrow 07/07. They were told that Chad broke his hand in Paris? I' don't know what to believe and there is not a piece of information on this site. This is a poor performance, guys.
Anyway, I saved myself and 2 buddies a trip from Frankfurt to Hamburg ...
Chad, get well soon and guys: "Come to Germany and play some shows, please!!!!!!!"
Cheers
Bob
EDEL MUSIC and Chickenfoot are sorry to announce that the shows in Hamburg and Copenhagen are cancelled due to serious injury of Chad Smith.

Hopefully you Chickenfoot guys read these posts. The album has slipped to #15 on the charts and you better get another single out there quick if you want to rebound back, how about "My Kinda Girl", "Soap On A Rope", or "Future In The Past".
Better hurry or you will slip out of the Billboard charts!
And why no updated news on the site?

Hi from Spain, get well soon
Oh Yeaaaaaah !
Yesterday's show in Montreux was really awesome ! Great show !
One little tip: if you plan to see the show at the front, go on the right to hear Iron Mike's bass, and on the left to hear Joe's Guitar... since Mike and its Peaveys are on the right and Joe and its Marshalls on the left.
I particularly liked when Sammy played guitar with Joe at the end of the show.
French Chickenhead.
he's playing fine, what's the real story? Nobody rips a bicep and then uses the arm...
Hello,
really strange internet site without any news!? No news from Chad's injury. Okay, I am going to the show in Montreux tonight. Will tell you if Chickenfoot performed...
French Chickenhead.
did they play tonight? How were they?
Any new news on Chad's injury?
sorry to hear about chads injury, hope he gets better soon,
would it be possible to send me any videos from the concert in shepards bush?
thanks chickenfoot you guys are awsome and we are now doing covers of your songs and writing songs in a style influenced by you, thanks again :D
Hi Chickenfoot Guys ! We are many here in Denmark who are sorry to hear about Chads injury. We hope he will be ok enough to play in Copenhagen 08.07. Looking forward to see the show and listen to your music...
Have a great week end.
All the best from sweating hot Denmark. Not Cabo Wabo temperature I think, but close.
